Heilmann was a Hall of Famer who teamed with Ty Cobb for the Detroit Tigers, his manager and mentor. Heilmann won four batting titles between 1921 and 1927, and coming within nine hits of hitting .400 each year. After his 17-year playing career ended, he broadcast Tigers games for another 17 years.
