Description

BASEBALL’S DYNAMIC DUO: The ‘SULTAN OF SWAT’ and the “IRON HORSE’ signed ball

Official D&M (Draper and Maynard) baseball signed in fountain pen on the sweet spot, “Babe Ruth,” and on a side panel, “Lou Gehrig.” Ball is housed in a PSA/DNA authentication cube, grading the ball “EX-MT 6.” Ball is also accompanied by a letter of grading and authenticity from PSA/DNA, grading Ruth’s signature a “7,” Gehrig’s signature a “6,” a baseball grading of “5,” and an overall grading of a “6.” Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig teamed on the New York Yankees to form one of baseball's most devastating hitting tandems ever. Ruth, ''Sultan of Swat,'' led the Bronx Bombers to seven A.L. pennants and four World Series titles, and finished his career with 714 home runs. Gehrig, ''The Iron Horse,'' had 13 consecutive seasons with both 100 runs scored and 100 RBI, averaging 139 runs and 148 RBI. His .361 batting average in seven World Series led the Yankees to six titles. During an off-season barnstorming trip to Japan, the civil relationship between the two slugging stars boiled over, apparently over a comment that Gehrig’s mother had made about how Ruth’s daughter dressed. Ruth got word to Gehrig that he never wanted to speak to him off the field again, and the two never traded words until Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day six years later, where after Gehrig’s famous farewell speech, Ruth embraced Gehrig and spoke in his ear the first words they had shared since 1934. In very good condition, with a mostly uniform, appealing patina to the ball, some light scuffing and soiling, and a couple trivial skips to signatures. Many would consider Ruth and Gehrig the two greatest who ever played, with the remainder having both in their top five, regardless this item appeals to both Yankee and baseball fans with this great combination. Auction LOA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
