Scarce twice signed war-dated Patton free frank

Scarce free franked War Department war-dated mailing envelope, 8.75 x 4, postmarked July 29, 1943, addressed in type to Frederick Ayer in Boston, Massachusetts. Franked in the upper right corner “Free” and signed in the return address area, “Lt. Gen G. S. Patton, Jr.,” adding his address underneath. Envelope is signed again in the lower left corner, “Cleared, G. S. Patton, Jr., Lt. Gen.” Ayer would become the author of Patton’s biography entitled Before the Colors Fade: A Portrait of a Soldier. In fine condition, with some scattered light soiling and creasing mostly confined to edges. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
