Lady Diana Frances Spencer (1961–1997) was 20 when she married Prince Charles, future king of England, on July 29, 1981. While her youth and beauty made her a favorite of the public and the paparazzi, her personal life provided an endless supply of fodder for the tabloids. After the birth of two sons, Princes William and Harry, Diana and Charles finally divorced in 1996. Diana devoted her post-royal life to her sons and worldwide charities. She and her boyfriend, department-store heir and sometime movie producer Dodi Fayed, were killed in a 1997 car crash in Paris while on the run from paparazzi. Stunning oversized color satin-finish 9.75 x 12 photo (affixed to a 10.5 x 14 mount) of Diana in a purple velvet off-the-shoulder dress, her hands in her lap, signed on the mount in green ballpoint “Diana 1989.” The gown in the photo was designed by Bruce Oldfield and worn by Diana to the second Bruce Oldfield Gala held at Grosvenor House. The dress later sold for $26,450 at Christie’s 1997 charity auction of Diana’s clothing. A few trivial marks to image, and light toning, crease, and a few spots of skinning to mount (well away from signature and restorable or easily hidden by selective matting), otherwise fine condition. Diana is very scarce in signed images of this size. R&R COA.
