The endorsement stamp on the reverse reads “Chamberlain & Long Auto”—suggesting that the payment was perhaps related to Dean’s interest in auto racing. In May of the same year, Dean had purchased a red MG, followed shortly by a Ford Country Squire “woodie” station wagon. It was in the following year that Dean purchased the Porsche Spyder, nicknamed “Little Bastard,” in which he lost his life.
