Description

American naval admiral (1882–1968) who commanded the Pacific Fleet at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Relieved of his command after the attack, Kimmel retired shortly thereafter and spent much effort defending his actions, arguing that crucial information that might have allowed for greater preparedness was never made available to him. ALS, one page, 8.5 x 11, January 31, 1953. Kimmel writes to Mr. Cole. In part: “This is to … inform you that I will be pleased to autograph the photograph if you will forward it to me at this address….” Intersecting mailing folds (vertical fold to last name, marginal staple holes, and a touch of mild toning and handling wear, otherwise fine condition.
