Declining an invitation: “I hope ... it will truly be a winter vacation with the fewest possible commitments”

TLS, one page, 7 x 10.25, personal letterhead, May 29, 1964. Ike writes to Franklyn A. Johnson, President of California State College. In part: “Thank you for sending the program of your inauguration as president of California State College in Los Angeles. I appreciate your renewed invitation to address the students during our stay in California. However, I hope by the time I return, my book will be completed and that it will truly be a winter vacation with the fewest possible commitments. Of course, I do not wholly rule out acceptance of any particular invitation….” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
