Description

LOVE THY DOG: Original 1995 PEANUTS daily strip featuring Charlie Brown, Linus and Snoopy

Original artwork for a Peanuts daily comic strip featuring Charlie Brown, Linus, and Snoopy, ink on artist’s cardstock, 19.25 x 5.5, December 13, 1995, signed at lower right “Schulz.” A philosophical Linus asks, “If you work real hard, and you get everything you’ve always wanted, is it worth it?,” to which Snoopy “thinks” the reply, “Not if your dog doesn’t like you.” Schulz only seldom employed this panoramic, one-panel format for his daily strips—a format that, free of the constraints of smaller multiple panels, inspired him to produce some of his most striking, complex, and fully realized artwork. The strip is featured on the front flap of the book Peanuts: A Golden Celebration (New York: HarperCollins, 1999), a copy of which is included. Matted and framed to an overall size of 25 x 11.5. In very fine condition, and notable for the lack of the bisecting crease typically found in Schulz’s original strips. A most handsome example! R&R COA. Oversized.
