Exhilarating 18.5 x 12 photo of Wayne driving a herd of horses in the 1972 film The Cowboys, signed and inscribed in black felt tip “Wayne - Many thanks to the Sheperek’s, John Wayne 1973.” Double matted and framed to an overall size of 25.5 x 19.5, with the original mailing label affixed to reverse. Consignor notes that this particular image is one that only Wayne had access to; he wanted a picture taken of him with the horses in an action shot, and it was not used as a publicity photo for the movie. There were only a couple of these done and they were given to John Wayne. He bestowed one upon a friend, Wayne Sheperek, owner of a mercantile store who helped supply materials and advise on Wayne’s horses. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA. Scattered surface marks and dings, as well as a couple of creases to background and a PSA/DNA authentication label affixed to lower left, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA. Oversized.
