Chrysler writes to his son, Walter, Jr., at the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut. In part: “We are so pleased to know that you are happy at the Hotchkiss School, the surroundings and environment, as all these things go toward building up a high standard in the boys’ minds, and I know that you will be able to obtain good results because of this. I am very proud of the fact that you have taken the matter so seriously and fully realize that everything worth getting in life is accomplished by hard work and a happy environment. I know that you will make good. It will probably be hard for the first three or four months but you have the determination and stick-to-it-iveness, and I am sure you will finish Hotchkiss with a creditable showing to yourself, and will make your associates and the school proud that you have been a scholar there. I think Harding [a friend of Walter, Jr.’s] is a great example of what the school will do for a boy, as he is certainly a wonderful chap.
