Description

Encouragement for his son and future successor: “I am very proud of the fact that you ... fully realize that everything worth getting in life is accomplished by hard work”

Automotive mogul (1875–1940) who founded the Chrysler Corporation. TLS signed “Dad,” two pages, 8 x 10, personal letterhead, September 24, 1924. Chrysler writes to his son, Walter, Jr., at the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut. In part: “We are so pleased to know that you are happy at the Hotchkiss School, the surroundings and environment, as all these things go toward building up a high standard in the boys’ minds, and I know that you will be able to obtain good results because of this. I am very proud of the fact that you have taken the matter so seriously and fully realize that everything worth getting in life is accomplished by hard work and a happy environment. I know that you will make good. It will probably be hard for the first three or four months but you have the determination and stick-to-it-iveness, and I am sure you will finish Hotchkiss with a creditable showing to yourself, and will make your associates and the school proud that you have been a scholar there. I think Harding [a friend of Walter, Jr.’s] is a great example of what the school will do for a boy, as he is certainly a wonderful chap. You are now laying the foundation for your future life….” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Intersecting mailing folds and a few wrinkles, otherwise fine, fresh condition. R&R COA.
