Two items: souvenir handwritten lyrics to Magic Carpet Ride on an 8.5 x 11 off-white sheet. Kay writes the entire lyrics for the song, signing at the top, “Magic Carpet Ride, lyrics by John Kay,” and again at the bottom, “John Kay of Steppenwolf”; and John Kay’s Special Citation of Achievement presented by BMI to Kay for one million broadcasts of Magic Carpet Ride, making Kay a “Million-Aire,” signed by BMI president Frances Preston, and signed on the glass by Kay, and framed to an overall size of 16.5 x 13.5. Magic Carpet Ride was initially released on the album Steppenwolf the Second. It was the lead single from that album, peaking at #3 in the U.S., and becoming the band’s second-biggest hit, surpassed only by Born to Be Wild. In fine condition. R&R COA.
