Austrian actor (1910–1973) best known for his role as Sgt. Schultz on the Nazis-as-lovable-clowns sitcom Hogan’s Heroes. Banner himself, a Jew, was transported to a concentration camp during World War II and released before the Nazis’ wide-scale extermination policies were implemented.
