Description

Good to be the Queen: The newly crowned Elizabeth signs an original Cecil Beaton portrait

Original vintage matte-finish 7.25 x 9.5 Cecil Beaton photo of the newly crowned queen posing with her orb and scepter against a backdrop of Westminster Abbey, affixed to an 8.5 x 11.5 mount, signed in fountain pen on the mount “Elizabeth R, 1953” and, in pencil, “Cecil Beaton.” Housed in its original black-leather-covered arch-top presentation frame with gilt-embossed “ER II” crest, measuring 10 x 14 overall. According to the consignor, the photo was originally owned by Michael Elizalde, onetime Philippine Ambassador to the U.S. Toning to edges of mount (touching date and descender of “z”), a touch of subtle soiling, and light silvering to dark portions at perimeter of image, otherwise fine condition. Regal, indeed! R&R COA.
