Fourth man to walk on the moon (born 1932) and module pilot on Apollo 12, the second lunar landing mission. In November 1969, Bean and Captain Pete Conrad landed on the moon’s Ocean of Storms after a flight of 250,000 miles. They explored the lunar surface, deployed several surface experiments, and installed the first nuclear-powered generator station on the moon. Flown 4 x 6 American flag carried to lunar orbit aboard the Apollo 12 Command Module Yankee Clipper, originating from the personal space collection of Alan Bean. Bean has added his handwritten flight certification directly on the flag: “Flown to the moon, Apollo XII, Nov. ’69, Alan Bean.” Accompanied by an informational certificate that includes a photo of Bean holding the same flag and the caption, “The accompanying flag orbited the moon 45 times over the course of 89 hours, and attained speeds approaching 25,000 mph during its historic million-mile journey.” In very fine condition, with areas of moderate contrast of writing against the stripes. Apollo-flown flags bearing an integral authentication signature from a mission participant are quite uncommon and avidly sought. COA Scott Cornish and R&R COA.
