American little person and entertainer (1838–1883), born Charles Sherwood Stratton, who became one of the most popular and legendary “attractions” managed by legendary showman P. T. Barnum. Ink signatures, “Compliments of Charles S. Stratton known as General Tom Thumb, May 2, 1861” and “Countess Misey Lavinia Magsi (Mrs. General Tom Thumb) Middleboro, Mass, Nov 14, 1912,” on an off-white 4.25 x 7 sheet. Double matted and framed with a portrait of the couple, to an overall size of 15.5 x 12.5. Purchased from the Kenneth Rendell Gallery. In fine condition, with Stratton’s signature a couple shades light, but completely legible, and a few wrinkles. R&R COA.
