American army officer who commanded airborne divisions in Europe during World War II. He was supreme commander of United Nations forces in Korea (1951–1952) and of NATO forces in Europe (1951–1953) and served as chief of staff of the U.S. Army (1953–1955). Souvenir typescript, one page, 8.5 x 11, of a letter sent by Ridgway to General Chung Il Kwon, Chief of Staff of the Repubic of Korea Army. In part, “I deem it opportune to share my personal basic conclusions with you…one ultimate objective - freedom for your people…one single common destiny…fight together and stay together.” Signed at a later date in black felt tip by Ridgway.
