Description

General confinement: A housebound Ike sends thanks for a bounty of gifts, “All in all our larder looks like we have suddenly come into money in large quantities.”

ALS signed “Ike E,” two pages of lined legal paper, 8 x 13, no date. Letter to Vivian McCracken. In full, “Mamie and I spent one hour last evening in examining the gifts that reached us bearing the McCracken label. The first big decision was to have strawberries for dinner. (Decision executed, results perfect). The flowers were distributed around the living room, accompanied by the hope that all the buds clinging to them would later open while the celery, peas and carrots were carefully stored away for prompt consumption. The lobster was the cream on the cake. Seeing that it was already cooked and frozen we immediately placed in the ‘Deep-freeze’ and are now planning an occasion worthy of such beauties. All in all our larder looks like we have suddenly come into money in large quantities. Actually it now boasts of things money could scarcely buy. We are more than grateful, we feel deeply obligated for your continuing kindnesses. I am presently confined to the house by doctors orders. I have some kind of ‘virus’ in my chest. However, I was told yesterday that by the end of the week they may release me. Give our affectionate greetings to ‘Mac’ and, always, our found thoughts to yourself.” In fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
