Revolutionary War–date pass from the namesake of Fort McHenry

Signer of the U.S. Constitution from Maryland (1753–1816) who was the namesake of Fort McHenry, the bombardment of which during the War of 1812 inspired Francis Scott Key to write “The Star-Spangled Banner.” ADS, a handwritten military pass “permit[ting] the dragoon to pass,” 5.25 x 2, June 18, 1778, signed “James McHenry, A. Secy.” Matted and framed with a portrait and engraved plaque to an overall size of 19 x 13. Mild scattered soiling and light vertical folds (one each touching first and last name), otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
