German-born engineer and architect (1806–1869). After arriving in Pennsylvania in 1831, Roebling earned much acclaim for his innovative designs for bridges, culminating in his “masterpiece,” the Brooklyn Bridge, whose construction commenced in the year following Roebling’s death and whose completion was supervised by his son. Large, early ink signature, “F. Augustus Roebling, 1818,” on the front free end page of his German-language French textbook (Dortmund, 1806), hardcover, 5 x 7.75, 202 pages. In very good condition, with scattered wear to covers and faint scattered staining to interior touching a few letters of signature. The signature itself is quite bold and scarcely affected. R&R COA.
