Influential jazz bassist and composer (1922–1979) whose complex, innovative works meld elements of jazz, classical, and gospel. Vintage ballpoint signature, “Charles Mingus,” on the reverse of a 5 x 3.5 press pass for the First European Jazz Festival (1960) issued to photographer Riccardo Schwamenthal. The pass also bears the signatures of drummer Dannie Richmond and vocalist Helen Merrill. In good condition, with mild soiling, heavy creasing touching signatures, and Richmond’s signature slightly touching Mingus’. The writing is otherwise bold and dark.
