American Roman Catholic priest (1886–1948) best known for founding Boys Town, where he espoused an education-based approach to reforming “wayward” youths. He was immortalized onscreen by Spencer Tracy in the 1938 film Boys Town, for which Tracy won an Academy Award. Beige identification card, 3.75 x 2.5, filled out by Flanagan with his name, “Rt. Rev. Msgr. E. J. Flanagan,” his street, “Father Flanagan’s Boys Home,” and listing his city and emergency contacts, both being Boys Town.
