436-year-old document from Charles IX

King of France, second son of Henry II, who was induced by his mother to effect the Massacre of St. Bartholomew. DS, in French, signed “Charles,” one page, 9 x 13.25, October 11, 1570. Document addressed “To my cousin,” the Duke of Parma. The King expresses the hope that friendly relations continue between them and recommends the Count de Colorno. In very good condition, with intersecting storage folds, lightly bisecting signature, a bit of scattered light toning, and a stain along lower fold. We should all look this good after 436 years!
