Description

Inscribing a White House card to the wife of a prominent presidential historian

White House card, 4 x 2.75, signed and inscribed, “For Mrs. James Grant Wilson with compliments and best wishes of Wm. H. Taft, April 9th 1912.” James Grant Wilson (1832–1914) was a Civil War officer, editor, and author whose books included a four-volume history of the Presidents of the United States. Titanic buffs will note that the ill-fated ship set sail from Liverpool on the following day; four days later, on April 14, the ship hit the iceberg that resulted in the most legendary tragedy in maritime history. Faint, unobtrusive vertical crease touching signature, otherwise fine, clean condition. LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
