A document related to the case Mark Hamilton vs. Jesse Cooper wherein Lincoln agrees to “enter myself security for costs in this cause, and promise to pay all costs which may accrue to the opposite party in this action, or to any of the officers of this court; and in default of payment by the plaintiff of any costs ordered or adjudged to be paid by the plaintiff hereby agree and stipulate that execution may issue against my property for any costs taxed against the said plaintiff.” This specific document (described as a bond) is referenced on page 216 of the standard history Lincoln Day by Day (Dayton: Morningside, 1991). Attractively matted and framed with a period portrait engraving to an overall size of 25.5 x 16.5. A hint of subtle toning and partial separation along bisecting horizontal fold (well away from signature), otherwise fine condition. The signature is clear and dark.
