Beloved Danish author (1805–1875) best known for such classic fairy tales as “The Ugly Duckling,” “The Red Shoes,” and “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” Unsigned and untranslated two-line verse (in pencil) on a pale green 8.25 x 3.25 slip. The slip, originally folded into a packet, bears a contemporaneous ink inscription on the reverse stating that the writing is in Andersen’s hand and that the packet contains a lock of Andersen’s hair [comprising several dozen lengthy strands], which is included. In very good condition, with folds, wrinkles, and a few tiny holes to note. The writing is generally clean and unaffected. LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
