Description

“The political atmosphere of America today is not a happy one for any thoughtful person”

American artist and illustrator (1882–1971) known for his crisp modernist style. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, October 7, 1961. Kent writes to Esther Blanc in San Francisco. In part: “We were deeply disappointed for Celia’s sake at learning that she had gone home again…. [Morris] has written us at length about his fears for the effect that the abnormal home situation may have upon this sensitive girl. For the time being my granddaughter is staying with the Lindens, and it may be that her extraversion [sic] and devotion to her studies may have a good influence upon Celia…. I am touched by your expressions of regard for my work—for friends is what an artist, through his work, is seeking. But I have found them—millions of them—in the Soviet Union.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. In fine condition, with a few mild wrinkles and mailing fold touching first letter of signature. R&R COA.
