American actress (1908–1942) who enjoyed great success as a popular screen comedienne in the 1930s and who became Mrs. Clark Gable in 1939. On January 16, 1942, en route to a war bond rally, the plane she was traveling in crashed into Mount Potosi near Las Vegas, killing all twenty-two passengers. Luminous vintage matte-finish 11 x 14 photo of a seated Lombard gazing dreamily upward, signed and inscribed in green ink, “For Peggy Dean, a great deal of love, always, Carole.” Small edge tear (confined to margin), a few unobtrusive creases, and a hint of subtle silvering at bottom edge, otherwise fine, clean condition. Most of these points are quite minor, are mentioned only for strict accuracy, and can easily be matted out. This gorgeous photo doesn’t merely speak for itself—it sings! PSA/DNA LOA and R&R COA.
