American child actor (1931–1980) best known for his role as “Buckwheat” in nearly 100 installments of the Our Gang comedy series. One of the most distinctive and beloved members of the “Gang”—his trademarks included wide-eyed double takes and pigtails that would stand on end when he was “ascared”—Buckwheat/Thomas dropped out of show business after his contract expired and found work as a film technician for Technicolor.
