Best known for the role of Sherlock Holmes in the film series in the late 1930s, Basil Rathbone’s acting career spanned Shakespeare to low-budget horror and actually included both at once in the Comedy of Terrors, where he recites every Shakespeare line related to dying. Vintage sepia matte-finish 7.5 x 9.5 photo, signed in fountain pen, “Yours sincerely, Basil Rathbone.” On the reverse, Rathbone adds a short note: “Many thanks for your kind letter of good wishes & encouragement.” A couple creases to image side as well as a touch of mild silvering and a bit of surface loss to reverse from mounting remnants, otherwise fine condition.
