British surgeon (1827–1912) who pioneered the practice of sterile surgery, one of the most important medical advances of the day. His name later became synonymous with a best-selling brand of antiseptic mouthwash. ALS signed “Lister,” one page, 4.5 x 7, black-bordered personal letterhead, November 21, 1899. Lister writes to Sir James Blyth. In part: “Please accept my best thanks for your kind present of game.” In fine condition, with filing holes and small tears at top edge and light scattered soiling with faint erasure remnant.
