Business check for the National-American Woman Suffrage Association, 6.25 x 2.25, filled out in another hand and signed by Anthony (as president) and fellow suffragist Alice Stone Blackwell (as recording secretary), payable to Carrie Chapman Catt (another suffragist and a leader in the campaign that resulted in the adoption of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution) for $17.50, March 3, 1899. The memo indicates that the payment was for “press work for February,” evidently related to the Association’s periodical, The Revolution. In fine condition, with light adhesive-related staining to top edge, mild soiling with a few faint stains (touching Anthony’s signature), and light folds and wrinkles. The signatures are strong and distinct. A great association with the cause that propelled Anthony into history! JSA/John Reznikoff Auction LOA and RRAuction COA.
