British surgeon (1827–1912) who pioneered the practice of sterile surgery, one of the most important medical advances of the day. His name later became synonymous with a best-selling brand of antiseptic mouthwash. ALS signed “Lister,” one page both sides, 4.5 x 7, personal black-bordered letterhead, October 23, 1897. Lister writes to Reginald Dudfield, Esq. In part: “I now write to say that if the Council of the Incorporated Society of Medical Officers of Health should see fit to elect me an Honorary Fellow, I should value the distinction very highly.” Very faint mailing fold touching signature and a few tiny spots to blank portion, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
