A big check for the “little woman”

Legendary organized crime leader (1902–1983) who led the notorious “enforcement” syndicate Murder, Inc., which emerged in the early 1930s as successor to the warring Prohibition gangs and the old-line Mafia and continued to operate into the 1950s. Bank check, 6.25 x 2.75, filled out and signed by Lansky, payable to Mrs. A[nna] Lansky for $500.00, September 30, 1937. The check has been endorsed on the reverse, “Anna Lansky.” Accompanied by an unsigned 1938 bank statement enumerating four checks written on Lansky’s account. Usual punch cancellations and bank stamps (the latter touching signature) and light vertical fold, otherwise fine condition. LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
