Description

Houston, we have a problem!

Two days after launch, the Apollo Spacecraft was crippled by an explosion, causing the Service Module portion of the Apollo Command/Service Module to lose its oxygen and electrical power. The crew used the Lunar Module as a lifeboat in space. The crew endured difficult conditions due to severe constraints on power, cabin heat, and drinkable water, but successfully returned to Earth. Color 10 x 8 NASA photo of the Apollo 13 crew, dressed in their civilian clothes, posing with a globe of the moon against a lunar background, signed in black felt tip by Jack Swigert and Fred Haise and in black ballpoint by James Lovell. Swigert served as a replacement on the mission after Ken Mattingly was exposed to German measles. He later became staff director of the Committee on Science and Technology of the U.S. House of Representatives. Elected to Colorado’s newly created Sixth Congressional District in 1982, he died on December 27, 1982, before taking office. In fine condition. Swigert is an uncommon signer, either alone or with his Apollo 13 crewmates. COA Scott Cornish and R&R COA.
