British Ambassador and presidential son Lincoln carefully observes diplomatic protocol: “A request for [the Prince’s signature] ... would be a violation of etiquette”

ALS signed “Robert T. Lincoln,” one page both sides, 5 x 8, Legation of the United States, London letterhead, March 20, 1891. Lincoln writes to G. Norton Galloway in Philadelphia. In full: “It has given me pleasure to write my name as you request & I return the programme to you by registered mail. I would be glad to comply with your wish respecting the Prince’s signature but a request for it would be a violation of etiquette.” In fine condition, with mild toning and a few very faint spots.
