As the guiding force behind the historic Second Vatican Council, John ushered in the most sweeping reforms the Catholic church had undergone in centuries. In part (translated): “It has been a long time that I wanted to thank you for the homage you made me in sending an inscribed copy of your book ‘Our Priesthood.’ I know that I am late, but I have the pleasure to say to you today that I read the book with the greatest interest. I congratulate you … and extend the same wishes to his Excellency Monsignor Guerry, and I hope that this book finds its deserving reception from the clergy.” In fine condition, with usual mailing folds, light scattered toning, and a few tiny edge tears.
