Description

Ike issues instructions regarding a congressman the press has painted as hostile to his administration: “Ask this guy to drop in for a few minutes some day”

ANS signed “DE,” one page, 8 x 10.5, January 19, 1955. Ike pens a note at the bottom of a typed “Summary of Congressional Mail Addressed to the President.” The document relays the content of a letter from North Dakota congressman Usher L. Burdick, who sent apologies for “his failure to attend the Congressional Reception due to his misunderstanding of the date” and who “points out that certain newspaper reports stating his lack of cordial feelings toward the President are untrue and he looks forward to having a closer relation with the President.” Ike’s handwritten response reads in full: “Ask this guy to drop in for a few minutes some day.” In fine condition, with usual folds, staple holes, and mild toning. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
