Unsigned handwritten note, in pencil, on a 4.5 x 4 off-white sheet. These notes were handed out by Gandhi on Mondays, his day of silence. In full, “I am so sorry. Monday is my day of comfortable silence & which may not be broken. You will therefore please excuse me.” Triple matted with a printed color explanatory sketch, possibly a Ripley, to an overall size of 18 x 14. Gandhi adhered to keeping a day of silence a week to be able to more deeply listen to inner guidance, even in the midst of his busiest campaigns. Light overall toning, bisecting folds and a couple of light spots, otherwise fine condition. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
