Manuscript DS, in German, one page, 8.25 x 6.5, January 4, 1918. A report of a dogfight with a British flyer submitted by one “Oppel, NCO and pilot.” The report reads in part (translated): “At an altitude of 3,800 meters … I witnessed how Vice Sergeant Schulz, flying approximately 400 meters to my left and above me, attacked an English Sopwith which was leading a group of three … the aircraft banked to the left and went into a vertical dive. The crash site … must have been located in the vicinity of Moorsleede.” The document is signed by Oppel and by Ernst Udet, who led the squadron. In fine condition, with mild toning and a few minor stains at edges, filing holes, and remnants of a paper seal. R&R COA.
