Seldom seen John Morton DS

In 1774 he was appointed Associate Judge of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. That year he was elected to the Continental Congress where he was a member of several committees and chairman of the committee which reported the Articles of Confederation. He died soon after that report was presented to Congress, at the age of fifty-three. DS, one page both sides, 8.25 x 7.5, 1762. In part: “This bill bindeth me John Knowles of Ridley in the county of Chester and province of Pennsylvania yeoman in the sum of thirty four pounds of lawfull money of Pennsylvania to be paid unto Isaac Pearson of Darby in the County of Chester aforesaid yeoman or to his executors or administers or assigns at or upon the eleventh day of July next with interest for the same for the true payment whereof I do bind my self…in the penal sum of Sixty eight pounds…” In very good condition, with lower right corner missing, not affecting text, and has been repaired, marginal fold tear, barely touching very end of signature.
