Four-term Governor of Massachusetts. Partially printed DS, one page, 10.5 x 16, July 1, 1862. A military commission appointing Thomas Clafey of Lowell a Second Lieutenant in the Nineteenth Regiment of the Massachusetts Volunteers. Clafey was killed six months later, on December 13, at the Battle of Fredericksburg. In fine condition, with folds, mild toning and soiling, and some faint scattered staining. R&R COA.
