Description

Baur archive, including a signed excerpt from Hitler’s Personal Pilot: “Hitler made it known that he would not leave the bunker.”

Hitler’s pilot. During the final days of World War II, Baur tried to convince Hitler to let him be flown out of Berlin. Hitler refused and thanked Baur for his long, faithful service. Baur then attempted to flee Berlin, and lost a leg in the attempt. He was a prisoner of the Russians until 1955. He died in 1993. Lot of eight signed items includes: five photos, ranging in size from 4 x 6 to 10 x 8; an ALS in English, no date, thanking Dr. West for his birthday wishes; a photocopy of the title page from Hitler At My Side; and a souvenir typescript, 8.5 x 11, comprised of an extract from his book, Hitler’s Personal Pilot, which reads, in part: “Hitler made it known that he would not leave the bunker. He gave orders that as many people as possible should be flown out. My planes started every night; I took many people to the south. Later, the Tempelholf Airport was lost and the only airport left to us was Gatow.” In overall fine condition, with a vertical fold through the title page, affecting one letter of the signature, bit of edge wear to a couple photos, occasional surface impression or crease.
