Army engineer who designed and built the ironclad Monitor for the U.S. government. Terrific lot of four ALSs, each signed “J. Ericsson,” dated between September 5 and October 3, 1859. Excerpts include: “I have already stated my opinion regrading Mr. Pluss’ [?] bill sum…I did so at length and regard that you did not take care of the document…” Another excerpt reads: “You will much oblige me by ordering M[?] Clute to send you a left handed 24-in engine complete with…starting gear and without…Let this be counted among the engines which Clute is now making.” In very good condition, with expecting mild toning, a few office notations, rough left edges where removed from a ledger or binder and small amount of adhesive residue on reverse of each. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
