Description

Corrupt but popular longtime congressman, mayor of Boston, and Governor of Massachusetts. Curley was convicted of official misconduct (for which he served five months in prison) and later, for mail fraud, for which he was pardoned by President Harry Truman. Curley’s career was dramatized in the 1958 film The Last Hurrah, in which he was played by Spencer Tracy. Vintage halftone 9.25 x 11 cardstock photo of a smiling Curley, signed in fountain pen, “With every good wish, James M. Curley, Governor of Mass., 1935–36.” In fine condition, with just a hint of rubbing and a tiny abrasion touching one letter of inscription. R&R COA.
