Union naval officer who invented the Dahlgren gun and established the U. S. Navy’s Ordnance Department. Nineteenth-century 11.5 x 7.5 photo, apparently an unmounted albumen print, signed and captioned in ink in the lower margin, “Ship Plymouth, Gunnery Ship 1857, Capt. Dahlgren.” In fine condition, with light toning and soiling (mainly at edges), a few light bends and dings, and corner chips, well away from image. R&R COA.
