Description

Busted! Early-twentieth-century “rap sheets” for thieves, burglars, and an accused murderer who got off

Interesting lot of thirteen partially printed pages from a police ledger with records from the Santa Clara County Jail, 8 x 13, 1903–1906. The handwritten information on each sheet includes physical appearance, habits (including drinking, smoking, and “chewing”), reasons for arrest (including petty theft, burglary, vagrancy, resisting, and, in one case, murder—though he was acquitted!), and more; each also includes an affixed approximately 2.25 x 3 mug shot. In fine condition, with handling wear, toning, soiling, and staining. R&R COA.
