TLS signed “Eisenhower,” one page, 5.75 x 7.75, Columbia University, Office of the President letterhead, May 11, 1950. In part: “Dear General: The Baers, who are making their first trip to Japan, expressed a desire to meet you and, if your schedule permits, I think that you would enjoy seeing them. Certainly, I would appreciate your doing so. I shall give them a copy of this note for identification to your staff.” In very good condition, even overall toning, adhesive residue to reverse from a previous mounting, a couple of small areas of trivial soiling. By 1950, MacArthur had successfully installed democracy in Japan. The occupation didn't end until 1952, but MacArthur left Japan in June of 1950 after the surprise attack of the North Korean army. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
