Two days before being sworn in, President-elect Jefferson writes and signs a pay order

Handwritten DS, signed as president-elect, “Your humble servant, Th: Jefferson,” one page, 8 x 4.75, March 2, 1801. President-elect Jefferson writes and signs a pay order for two men. “Pay to Messrs. Conrad & McMunn two hundred and fifty dollars sixty seven cents for value received on account.” Signed at the conclusion by Jefferson and countersigned by David Dobbins and John Barnes. In very good condition, with light uniform overall toning, with a heavier block of toning to signature from previous display, several bisecting mailing folds and some light show through from docketing on reverse.
