Description

Wilson assures a constituent: “You may be sure that I know and value the services of Sprigg and that his name will not go from my mind as I consider important appointments” and tells Sprigg “Certainly your services have been very unselfish and noteworthy.”

Lot of two TLSs, each one page, 8 x 9.75, State of New Jersey Executive Department letterhead. Both letters are dated February 3, 1911. One letter is addressed to Colonel Sprigg of Caldwell, New Jersey, and reads, in part: “You may be sure that I understand how you feel about appointments to office and your claims will receive my most friendly consideration. Certainly your services have been very unselfish and noteworthy.” The second letter is addressed to James Campbell of Essex Fells, New Jersey, and reads, in part: “Many letters sent to me seem to have failed of acknowledgment while I had a secretary who has recently left me, and I want to apologize for the fact that your favor of the fourteenth of January written in behalf of Colonel Sprigg was not acknowledged. You may be sure that I know and value the services of Sprigg and that his name will not go from my mind as I consider important appointments.” Brief research into the history of Wilson’s appointments do not indicate any consideration given to Sprigg. In overall very good condition, with folds through signature of one letter, scattered creasing, separations to two folds, staining to the upper left of one letter. R&R COA.
