Description

Jessica Tandy is compelled to refuse a luncheon invitation: I find that the second year of playing ‘Blanche’ is a greater physical strain than I had anticipated and I have promised my husband and my doctor not to do anything that isn’t absolutely essential to my performance or my family.”

Lot of two terrific items: a TLS from Jessica Tandy from The Barrymore Theatre, October 24, 1948, which reads, in part: “many thanks for your kind invitation to luncheon…I am afraid that I really must refuse. I find that the second year of playing ‘Blanche’ [a reference to Blanche du Bois in A Streetcar Named Desire, for which she won a Tony in the original Broadway production] is a greater physical strain than I had anticipated and I have promised my husband and my doctor not to do anything that isn’t absolutely essential to my performance or my family.” The second item is a wonderful vintage candid glossy 3.5 x 5.5 photo of Tandy and Cronin standing on a San Francisco street. In fine condition. R&R COA.
